In the International GreenMetric 2022 ranking, which evaluates universities in areas such as sustainability, education and research; IZTECH succeeded in becoming the 197th best university in the world.
GreenMetric evaluates universities from different countries every year in areas such as infrastructure, energy, climate change, waste, water resources, transportation and education and ranks them according to the total scores they receive from these evaluations. According to 2022 data, IZTECH, which ranked 197th among world universities, has achieved remarkable success in developing sustainability processes, researching and implementing new approaches.
IZTECH Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran stated that they have continued to work on sustainable green campus projects that set an example in every sense since their first term and noted the following: “One of the most important problems of our day is the management of the effective use of natural resources and obtaining new and sustainable resources. In this sense, as an academician and scientist, I believe that universities have a great responsibility in producing universal solutions to the problems of humanity. Therefore, universities are obliged to carry out activities to train educated people in sustainability and to produce and implement new methods. In our Institute, located in one of the most beautiful spots of İzmir; we have created an environment where we bring together a lifestyle in peace with what nature gives us. We have created pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, landscaping works, campus lighting and shelters for our animal friends. We have produced new water sources by establishing our own treatment facility and collecting rainwater. We have created renewable and sustainable energy sources by using wind and solar energy in our lighting. While producing science and technology for a sustainable future in our Institute to contribute to society, we also worked to create social awareness in an environment-friendly campus that increases the quality of life. We tried to create an atmosphere where our students enjoy spending time and that provides peace to our academics and employees. We will continue our efforts to create a campus worthy of our institutional identity without slowing down.”
