4th in Turkey and 1st in the Aegean Region among state universities in the IZTECH Research University Rankings

Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) succeeded in becoming the fourth state university in Turkey and the first in the Aegean Region in the 2022 Performance Evaluation of Research Universities determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

İYTE achieved great success by increasing its score compared to the previous year in the “Research Universities Performance Monitoring Index”, which evaluates the performances of universities included in the “Research-Focused Mission Differentiation Program” carried out by YÖK within the scope of the “Mission Differentiation and Specialization in Higher Education Project”.

The results of the Research Universities Performance Evaluation were announced at a meeting held at Ege University under the presidency of YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar. After the results were announced, IZTECH Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran stated that he was very happy and proud of İYTE’s national and international achievements. Rector Baran stated that İYTE is a university that produces and develops technology and continued his words as follows: “We use our academic knowledge and experience, conduct research in strategic areas for our country and transform our outputs into products that will play a key role in the development of our country. Our institute is one of the best universities in our country with a small number but the strongest academic staff in terms of quality. At our institute, we teach our students not only new information but also how to transform that information into final products. When I took office, I had three dreams for İYTE: A university with a Technology Base, a campus that is open 24/7 and a world university. We are working with all our might to realize these dreams. As a reward for our efforts, despite its age, which can be considered young for universities today, our Institute has left many established universities behind and has achieved the success of being fourth among state universities. I would like to thank all our IZTECH members and stakeholders who contributed to this success and our YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar for his support.”

Research Universities were scored by the Council of Higher Education under the headings of “Research Capacity”, “Research Quality” and “Interaction and Collaboration”. Universities were evaluated within the scope of a total of 32 indicators such as the number of scientific publications, number of citations, number of national-international projects, amount of funds obtained from projects, number of science awards, number of faculty member companies, university-industry collaborations, R&D and number of patents.
