2015 Master’s degree graduate of IZTECH Molecular Biology and Genetics Department, Dr. A team of scientists led by Caner Akin discovered a protein similar to eukaryotic tubulin in the genome of an archaea isolated from the hot spring waters of Yellowstone National Park. It was shown that this protein, which they named OdinTubulin  , resembles both eukaryotic tubulins and prokaryotic FtsZ proteins. OdinTubulin may represent an evolutionary intermediate between FtsZ and eukaryotic microtube-forming tubulins.

“Best Project” and “Most Innovative Application” Awards to Dr. Lecturer Uğur Demir

Dr. Lecturer Uğur Demir, faculty member of the Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) Department of Architecture, and Prof. Dr. Alper İlki, faculty member of the Istanbul Technical University Department of Civil Engineering, increased the earthquake resistance of buildings through a method described as the “spraying method.” The project also announced that it won the “Best Project” and “Most Innovative Application” awards at the 18th International Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete Conference.
