Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran attended the summit titled “Adamas Global Summit 2022 on Innovation in Higher Education Beyond Boundaries” hosted by Adamas University in India and gave a conference titled “New Trends in Health Technologies”.

Graduate of IZTECH Molecular Biology and Genetics Department. Atakan Ekiz was entitled to be supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK 2232-B International Young Researchers Program with his project titled “Characterization of microRNA mechanisms that control tumor immunity and discovery of new targets and biomarkers in cancer immunotherapy”, which he prepared at IZTECH, where he returned about 1 year ago.

“III. “International Artificial Intelligence Congress in Health” was attended by TR Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. The session chairman of the opening conference, in which Sabahattin Aydın took part as a speaker, was Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran did it.

“Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar” was organized by IZTECH Bioengineering Student Community within the scope of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran attended the World Health Summit 2022 held in Berlin, Germany.

Collaborations and Health Services

Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) has strong collaborations with local, national, and global health institutions to improve health & well-being outcomes. At the local level, IZTECH has partnership agreements with two of the top medical universities of Izmir, Tinaztepe University Medical School, and Dokuz Eylul University Biomedicine & Genome Center.

Izmir Institute of Technology as a body delivers outreach programmes and projects in the local community to improve health & well-being, personal hygiene, and nutrition. In 2021, IZTECH organized The European Researchers’ GREEN Night events in Izmir in partnership with Yaşar University, Ege University, and Izmir Katip Çelebi University.

Izmir Institute of Technology campus, including the outdoor sports fields, campus cafeteria, and library, is free to local communities and the general public. The indoor sports fields, including the swimming pool are membership-access-only to maintain the high standards of service, hygiene, and safety provided to their users.

Izmir Institute of Technology Health Center provides sexual and reproductive education services to students at no cost. These services include free in-person consultations, online webinars, and lectures.

IZTECH takes utmost care about the physical and psychological well-being of its staff and students. To that end, education seminars are organized throughout the year, free consultation services are offered, and agreements are executed with mental health providers.

As part of World Leukemia Children’s Week, the “İYTE Against Cancer” event was held in collaboration with the Hope Foundation for Children with Cancer and the İYTE Football Club.

The 24th Traditional Folk Dance Event Was Held

IZTECH Folk Dance Club’s 24th Traditional Folk Dance Night was held at the Sabancı Cultural Center.

The club skillfully blended folk dances from various regions across Anatolia, delivering a performance that was highly appreciated by the audience.

IZTECH Rector Baran Visited MIT Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research

The Rector of İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, visited the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). During his visit, Rector Baran met with Institute Director Prof. Dr. Matthew Vander Heiden and faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Yılmaz to discuss potential collaborations between the two institutions.

Award for Contributions to Biology and Science Given to Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran

Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, the Rector of İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), has been honored with the “Award for Contributions to Biology and Science,” given for the first time by the Turkish Biologists Association. Known for his significant work in cancer genetics, Prof. Dr. Baran received the award on the opening day of the 25th National Biology Congress, hosted by IZTECH.
