Plant Landscapes to Minimise Water Usage

IZTECH is located on the Karaburun Peninsula of İzmir, Türkiye. The location experiences Mediterranean climate around the year. However, decreasing rainfall in recent years makes water conservation a priority for IZTECH. The main campus flora is shrubs, characteristics of Mediterranean climate. There is an ongoing effort of making IZTECH campus more green through planting vegetation and trees. The endemic species such as olive trees, oleander trees and pine trees are prioritized in these efforts. These species are known for their low water needs.

Also landscape modifications are made on the campus grounds in order to direct the runoff water into green areas. Generally natural and local materials are used in these modifications so that ground permeability is maximized.
