Delivering outreach programmes and projects in the local community to improve or promote health & wellbeing

Izmir Institute of Technology as a body delivers outreach programmes and projects in the local community to improve health & well-being, personal hygiene, and nutrition. In 2021, IZTECH organized The European Researchers’ GREEN Night events in Izmir in partnership with Yaşar University, Ege University, and Izmir Katip Çelebi University (https://iyte.edu.tr/etkinlikler/green-night-avrupa-arastirmaci-gecesi-etkinligi/).

The aim of this event is to bring researchers closer to the general public and to increase awareness of research and innovation activities, support the public recognition of researchers, create an understanding of the impact of researchers’ work on citizen’s daily life, and encourage young students from pre-primary, primary and secondary level to embark on research careers. More importantly, GREEN NIGHT highlights the importance of raising awareness of the general public, especially young people, on the necessity of green transformation for the future of our planet.

The GREEN NIGHT project was supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Marie Skłodowska-Curie (Grant Agreement No:101036089). The outreach activities involved workshops, seminars, demonstrations, hands-on experiments, games, competitions, shows, or simulations carried out on four campuses around the city on four themes: nutrition, transportation, te management, and energy (Figure).
