Reducing the Impact of Alien Species on Campus

The EU funded project, TERIAS (EVALUATION OF THE THREATS OF INVESTIGATIONAL   FOREIGN   SPECIES   IN   TERRESTRIAL   ENVIRONMENTS   AND

INTERNAL WATERS IN TÜRKİYE), aims to contain Invasive Alien Species (IAS) in terrestrial and inland waters in accordance with EU Regulation 1143/2014 to ensure the resilience of these ecosystems. The contract will include technical assistance and capacity building activities supporting the analysis and development of the Turkish legal structure for IAS control, including the preparation of a draft regulation and the establishment of an intersectoral advisory board. In this context, strategies, action plans and management plans will be prepared, trainings will be provided, the relevant database will be developed, the management capacities of the competent authorities for the control of the relevant IAS will be developed; and public awareness activities. In addition, pilot applications for the control of IAS in selected regions of Turkey will be conducted for six exclusive species defined as IAS. In line with the results of TERIAS, IZTECH will develop its policy on alien species.
