No More Housing Issues for İYTE Students

All Students Who Applied for Dormitories This Year Found Accommodation

The housing problem for students at the Izmir Institute of Technology (İYTE) is now a thing of the past. In addition to its existing dormitories, İYTE now offers on-campus housing to students through the new dormitories opened in the past year.

Bed Capacity Above World Standards

İYTE has taken a major step to meet the housing needs of its students. The campus has achieved an average well above global standards in terms of the student population to bed capacity ratio. As a result, students can now focus on their studies without worrying about accommodation.

Students of İYTE, a top-tier research university in Turkey that provides education in basic sciences, engineering, and architecture, no longer face housing issues thanks to the newly built dormitories on campus. In 2023, all students who applied for dormitories were accommodated, and no student was left on a waiting list.

İYTE values its students’ demands and approaches their problems with a solution-oriented mindset. As a result, it recently ranked first among all universities in Turkey in the “Turkey University Satisfaction Survey (TÜMA).” In the same survey, based on students’ responses, İYTE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran was awarded the UNİAR Gold Award for “Rector Performance Evaluation.”

**Dormitory Guarantee for Every Student**

Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran expressed his delight regarding the resolution of the housing issue: “I am very happy to announce that, as of this year, we have completely resolved the most significant issue for our beloved students—housing. As is known, due to the lack of sufficient dormitories on our campus, students living in nearby villages and districts had to struggle with high rents. Since taking on the role of rector, I have mobilized all our resources with great motivation to solve this problem.

With the new KYK dormitories we built, we increased our bed capacity from 1,032 to 3,406.

Today, as of September 2023, we have reaped the rewards of our efforts by ensuring that all students who wish to stay in KYK dormitories at our university have been accommodated, with no student remaining on the waiting list.”

Rector Baran emphasized the importance of successfully resolving the housing issue so that students can focus solely on their studies. He added: “On behalf of myself and my students, I would like to thank former Minister of Youth and Sports (GSB) Dr. Muharrem Kasapoğlu, current GSB Minister Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak, Chairman of YÖK Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, General Director of the Credit and Dormitories Institution Mr. Recep Ali Er, and GSB İzmir Provincial Director Mr. Murat Eskici for their support.”
