Proportion of Recycled Waste
Generated and recycled waste information is measured and monitored by the IZTECH Waste Management Commission. IZTECH measures the amount of organic waste generated based on its population and 0.8 kg/ca waste generation rate. Based on this calculation approximately 6-8 tons of waste, which corresponds to filling a garbage truck, is collected every day.
Yearly waste to landfill: 5.5 tons/day * 20 days/month * 12 months/year = 1320 tons/year
Recyclables are approximately 225 kg/month. This is mostly paper, plastic and metal waste. Glass waste is collected by a different company, approximately 44 kg/day.
Yearly recyclables: 2700 + 10560 = 13260 kg/year = 13.3 tons/year
Hazardous waste is collected yearly and it is monitored by the IZTECH Waste Management Commission. In the 2021-2022 period 11500 kg hazardous waste was collected from labs and sent to an incineration facility.
Total Non-Hazardous Waste = 1320 + 13.3 = 1333.3 tons/year
Proportion of waste recycled = 13.3/1333.3 = 1 %
