Providing Affordable Housing for Students

The General Directorate of Credits and Dormitories (GDCD) is a public institution affiliated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkiye, established on August 22, 1961. The GDCD provides social services such as accommodation and aims to financially support undergraduate students with financial difficulties. Within the grounds of IZTECH campus, there are currently 2 dormitories for male and female students.

All Students Who Applied to Dormitories This Year Found the Opportunity to Settle in

The housing problem for Izmir Institute of Technology (IYTE) students is now a thing of the past. In addition to its existing dormitories, IZTECH offers its students accommodation on campus thanks to the dormitories opened in the last year.

Bed Capacity Ratio Above World Standards

IZTECH took a big step to meet the housing needs of its students. The campus achieved an average of well above world standards in terms of student population and bed capacity. In this way, students can focus on their education without experiencing accommodation problems.

Students of IYTE, one of Turkey’s A+ Research universities that provide education in the fields of basic sciences, engineering and architecture, do not have accommodation problems thanks to the newly built dormitories on the campus. As a matter of fact, in the applications made to the dormitories on the IYTE campus in 2023, all students had the opportunity to be placed and there was not a single student left behind.

IZTE, which cares about the demands of its students and approaches its problems with an absolute solution focus, ranked first among all universities in Turkey in the recently announced “Turkey University Satisfaction Research [TÜMA]” ranking, and in the same ranking where students are scored according to their answers to questions, IZTE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran said; He was deemed worthy of the ÜNİAR Gold Award in the “Rector Performance Evaluation Scale”.

 Dormitory Guarantee for Every Student

IZTECH Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, in his statement on the subject, said, “I would like to share with great pleasure the news that we have completely solved the accommodation problem, which is the most important problem for our beloved students on our campus, as of this year. As it is known, since we did not have enough dormitories on our campus, our students living in the surrounding villages and districts had to struggle with high rents. In this context, from the moment I took office as rector, we mobilized all our resources to solve this problem with great motivation.

With the new KYK dormitories we built, we increased our bed capacity from 1,032 to 3,406.

Today, we see the reward of our efforts; “As of September 2023, all our students who want to stay in KYK dormitories at our university have been accepted to the dormitories and none of our students have to stay in reserve.” said. Rector Baran touched upon the importance of successfully resolving the accommodation problem so that students can focus only on their education and said, “I would like to thank former Minister of Youth and Sports (GSB), Mr. To Muharrem Kasapoğlu, Minister of GSB, Dr. To Osman Aşkın Bak, our YÖK President, Prof. Dr. “I would like to thank Erol Özvar, our General Manager of the Credit and Dormitories Institution, Mr. Recep Ali Er, and our GSB İzmir Provincial Manager, Mr. Murat Eskici, on behalf of myself and my students,” he said.
