The İzmir Institute of Technology is deeply committed to addressing critical global challenges, such as ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture. Through its innovative research, interdisciplinary programs, and community engagement initiatives, the institute actively contributes to developing solutions for a sustainable food system. Faculty and students at İzmir Institute of Technology work on advanced agricultural techniques, efficient resource management, and food innovation, aiming to create resilient systems that address food scarcity and nutritional deficiencies. Additionally, the institute collaborates with local and international partners, leveraging scientific expertise to influence agricultural policies, support smallholder farmers, and foster sustainable practices that benefit both people and the environment. This dedication aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, underscoring the institute’s commitment to creating a food-secure future for all.

Izmir Institute of Technology outsources the campus’s food and dining services to a local catering company. The outsourcing contract includes monitoring and reporting food waste within the main university cafeteria and a specific work plan to reduce food waste.

 

An iftar dinner was organized at the festival area, hosted by IZTECH and in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent Urla Branch.

On the occasion of Muharram, ashoura was served in cooperation with IZTECH Rectorate and Turkish Red Crescent Urla Branch.

Izmir Institute of Technology provides sustainable and affordable food choices for all on campus. As part of the catering services contract, the nutritional content of meals served to all students and staff members is carefully adjusted and monitored by food engineers of the outsourced catering company and reported to IZTECH Food Safety & Nutrition Commission periodically. IZTECH Food Safety & Nutrition Commission, established among IZTECH Academic and Administrative personnel, also monitors campus food nutrition and safety.

Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) provides access to food security and sustainable agriculture & aquaculture knowledge, skills, and technology to local farmers and food producers through several initiatives and programmes. IZTECH provides access to the university’s research facilities to several local farmers and food producers to improve sustainable farming practices.

Rector Baran Met with Faculty Members Supporting Damage Assessment Efforts in Earthquake Regions

After breaking the fast, Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran delivered a speech on the significance of the day at the event, which was attended by the district protocol, İYTE academic and administrative staff, students, and friends of İYTE. He said, “The month of Ramadan is a time when love and sharing are experienced most intensely.

A bazaar was organized by IZTECH  Social Assistance and Solidarity Office at the Show Center to support students.

The Sausage Party at IZTECH was held at the Festival Area.
